Your Facebook friends aren’t registered with Klout!
Having more verified friends can only improve your Klout Score!
– Klout.com message during sign-up process
So I thought I’d see what Klout.com was about. I’ve heard that Klout assigns you a number and determines if you are an influencer, or not, based on Twitter and Facebook data.
Some people question if it works or not. And some people are even putting Klout scores on their resumes. Well!
But I’ve already determined it doesn’t work and I only got as far as the second registration screen. I clicked ‘Facebook Connect’ to allow Klout at my data and received a note that I can only improve my score by getting my friends to join.
Sounds like an ‘Influencer Ponzi’ scheme to me, so far. We shall see…
UPDATE: I twitter’d this post and quickly received this response from Klout.com CEO and founder Joe Fernandez:
that registration copy is a little too self-serving. We’ll change it.
That’s impressive to me – kudos to Klout for listening. Does this mean I’ve improved my Klout score? I appear to be influencing Klout’s verbiage on it’s own website!
