The recent totally awesome Old Spice social media campaign did not convince me to buy their product. That’s not because I didn’t like the advertising – in fact, I loved it. And it’s not even because they didn’t answer my question. Not a big deal. They were busy, and there were better questions.

I discovered that the core product features of Old Spice just do not appeal to me, regardless of the brand. I don’t immerse myself in manufactured smells. And I won’t start now.

But the campaign did make me think actor Isaiah Mustafa would be an interesting guy to follow. Also, the Old Spice copywriters were brilliant, so I’ll search for them on twitter and follow them, too.

It’s interesting: I had a positive response to the Old Spice advertising, a negative response to purchasing the product, and a positive response to the individual personal brands contained within the advertising production of the campaign.

It’s such a complicated (and awesome!) marketing world we live in these days, huh?
