Microsoft Internet Explorer says, “You grew up. So did we.”

This is is a super nostalgic video ad by Microsoft. I’m not a kid of the 90s – I’m from the late 70s, early 80s – but I found I could relate to many of the images. It’s shot really well and I think they had just about everything covered. No Ninja Turtles, but it still worked.

The narration is well done, too. It ended with that slogan: “You grew up. So did we.” But I’m left not trusting Internet Explorer any more now than before I watched the video.

Should the message have been, “We don’t suck anymore. Just like you.” That’s not quite right.

Or maybe, “We were Google Chrome before Google was Google. And before you were you.” Oh hell, Microsoft, what are you even doing?

If nostalgia is the only thing you can serve up to get people to use your crappy browser, then you need to start over. Maybe try making a browser people want to use?
