I recently was followed by a gaggle of Instagram profiles that looked suspiciously like spam accounts. The words and phrases used in the profile bios were pretty interesting:

  • Alcohol expert
  • Tv geek
  • Zombie maven
  • Beer fan
  • Zombie advocate
  • Total problem solver
  • Evil explorer
  • Proud music ninja
  • General organizer
  • Unapologetic gamer
  • Hipster-friendly bacon specialist
  • General zombieaholic
  • Travel nerd
  • Web fanatic
  • Friendly musicaholic
  • Typical communicator
  • Prone to fits of apathy
  • Total food enthusiast
  • Coffee lover
  • Bacon buff
  • Unapologetic web ninja
  • Travel maven

Looks like their research pointed to the fact that “Zombie Advocates” tend to auto-follow other Zombie fans?

The “Pitch” in these bios was at the end:

  • Check out Jobs+ Android App and be first to see local job listings! Download on the link below!
  • Get Samsung S III For Free!
  • Protect Your Smartphone with Our Award-winning Mobile Security Apps.
  • VivaMobile USA offer a wide selection of the latest mobile ringtones, games and applications
  • Play the Candy Crush Saga – FREE GAME – Download on the link below!
  • Get a car from the Auto Club Mobile Deals. Click the link below to pick your own car now!

Right.

Okay, clearly some effort went into making these profiles “look” authentic. However, this is Instagram, so loading just a few photos might have been a good idea, right? Good grief.
