A Recipe For Slightly-Chilled Water

mysterycar:

So I was in the break room yesterday, getting a cup of coffee, when a coworker I do not know – there are actually a good number of people matching that description on my floor – came in with one of those 24 oz. plastic thermal mugs.

He first went to the ice dispenser and filled the mug to the top with crushed ice. Next, he went to the hot-water dispenser – the one people use to make tea – and poured hot water into the mug. I did not stay to observe further, but my assumption is that the ice and the very hot water cancelled each other out, mostly, to create water that was chilled just as slightly as the water that comes out of the cold water dispenser.

So… I know this story is a bit pointless (and I appreciate the existence of Tumblr to allow me to expound about this), but it strikes me as, hmm, curious that someone could so quickly cancel the energy it took to create very hot water and the energy it took to create ice in order to create water of a temperature that was already easily available.

This sounds delightful. I think I’ll try it!

***Oh snap. I read “Jameson” instead of “hot water”.
