The real-life “Replacements”

I liked this run-down on Aaron Rodgers and the Packers leading up to the NFC title game against the Bears this weekend. Well put. I still don’t know who will win.

rocknrollcecilclub:

He grew up in Chico and spent two years at Butte JuCo.

Transferred to Cal where he made a name for himself before sliding down the draft scale, scooped up at No. 26 by the GBP.

Spent three years riding pine behind Favre, soaking up his demeanor and Cherry Skoal.

But ever since that memorable first touchdown pass, he’s become his own man, with his own legend, his own story.

You still see glimmers of No. 4 in 12 — his cadence; his impromptu shovel passes, and the goofy sideline convos all reminiscent of the Kiln Cowboy.

But he looks different this year and so does this team of rag-tags, street pick-ups, undrafteds and walk-ons.

Aaron Rodgers is typical of this team of dreamers and studious studs.

He watches more film than Ebert; and seems to have taken a vow of silence until he jogs on to the field where he becomes bold and brash. His enigmatic touchdown celebrations (ranging from the “championship belt” to the “Mario jump”) are the first to be mimicked outside of Green Bay since Tim Harris’s “smokin’ pistols.”

But this team has some fire and passion not seen since Cecil bled for the Green & Gold. He’s honored to be a Packer, and we’re glad to have him. And Sunday marks the game of his life.

Ted Thompson, the former Houston Oiler linebacker, has artfully pieced together this team. And Pittsburgh’s own Mike McCarthy leads with a blue-collar attitude.

Come on, A-Rod! Bury the Bears, Bro. I need another Super Bowl story to tell my kid.

I’m rooting for ya, buddy. It’s too late to stop now.

Packers 31-Bears 20.
