I should say first that, in my observations, RNC Research:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Does not actually produce research. Nor do they produce information about the Republican party, and<\/li>\n<li>They primarily exist to create high-school level Obama attack ads.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This particular ad caught my eye. It shows Obama laughing, a quote \u201cyou didn\u2019t build that\u201d above him, and the 1929 Empire State Building in the background.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone can agree, Obama did not build the Empire State Building &#8211; foreign trained architects designed it and (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.irishcentral.com\/IrishAmerica\/article\/The-Empire-Builders-79243012.html?page=2\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">mostly<\/a>) illegal immigrants built it. So, what\u2019s the deal with this ad?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Built in Manhattan, New York in 1929 the Empire State Building was co-designed with a <strong>Canadian<\/strong> and a New Yorker who studied in <strong>France<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Contracted to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fundinguniverse.com\/company-histories\/starrett-corporation-history\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Chicago<\/strong> construction firm<\/a>, Starrett Brothers &amp; Eken, Inc. (now NYC based)<\/li>\n<li>And most workers were\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Empire_State_Building#Design_and_construction\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>undocumented illegal immigrants<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Interestingly, this included non-U.S. citizen Mohawk Indian ironworkers. The Mohawks were openly and legally discriminated against, were actively <strong>denied U.S. citizenship by the 71st Republican run Congress and Senate<\/strong>, were screwed over many times as <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.indianlaw.org\/molr\/home\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Republican run congress and senate violated Indian treaties and federal acts<\/a><\/strong> (the UN scolded the US for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/headlines06\/0311-07.htm\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">continued violations as recently as 2006<\/a>, <strong>also under a Republican administration<\/strong>), and were continuously <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emayzine.com\/lectures\/native20th.htm\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">denied human rights<\/a>, which were collectively known back then as \u2018freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Great \u201cresearch\u201d guys\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Update: A few have pointed out that the quote, \u201cyou didn\u2019t build that\u201d is in reference to a speech Obama gave this week at Historic Fire Station No. 1, in <\/strong><strong>Roanoke Virginia. He basically stated that no business could exist with out the help of family, friends, government, and other community support. The right scraped the above quote, called it a gaff, and turned it into a meme. <em>Ironically<\/em>, the subject matter used in the memes only prove Obama\u2019s point &#8211; that nothing gets built without other people (sometimes legitimately, other times shadily) &#8211; as I showed above.<br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Boom. Great post. And I love the irony. My republican friends on Facebook are celebrating this &ldquo;gaff&rdquo; as well &ndash;\u00a0 one of them actually linked to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/blog\/watercooler\/2012\/jul\/15\/picketvideo-obama-if-youve-got-business-you-didnt-\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">full context of the quote<\/a>, but I don&rsquo;t think any of them had actually read it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>climateadaptation: I follow this batshiat-crazy tumblr called \u201cRepublican National Committee Research.\u201d I have an interest in cities, architecture, and infrastructure and can\u2019t help but notice how hilarioterrible this ad is.
