Controlling a live badger on the field proved to be difficult, so he was replaced with a live raccoon named \u201cRegdab\u201d (which is badger spelled backwards!). Later, a papier-m\u00e2ch\u00e9 headpiece was created and a naming contest followed. After tossing around \u201cBenny\u201d, \u201cBernie\u201d, \u201cBuddy\u201d, and \u201cBobby\u201d, \u201cBucky\u201d was chosen to be the mascot\u2019s name.
